Fascinating transparencies capture the light. Glass is shaped in form and color. Antica Murrina and its glass jewelry was born back in the 60s from the idea of two young Venetian brothers, Achille and Francesco Voltolina, starting with crystal and blown glass lamps. The Murrina technique of glass making was discovered in ancient Roman times but it became really popular in the 18th century, when the technique was so evolved that it allowed designs to be very elaborate and complicated. Long canes of glass are cut into tiny pieces and put together to form a design. The shape is then heated in the oven until it melts into one piece, to create the famous Murrina.
In 1989, the Voltolina brothers registered their Antica Murrina brand and they immediately focused on fashionable glass jewelry with two new collections every year. In 2006, they opened their first Antica Murrina flagship store on St. Mark’s Square in Venice and launched their project to open single brand boutiques, which now number fifty around the world and more ready to open.
